Sisters Journal June 9th
Today is humid and hot. It is like and old summer day a long time ago. The
old man down the hill who I pass every day on my way to run waves to me.
It's a pleasant kind of wave, slow and easy. Everything is kind of slow
and easy today. The air is like soup. I drive down the same road I always
do, only this time I park in the shade. I run the same place I always do,
only this time the telephones poles stand out to me like spikes along the
lake stringing the whole park together. All of a sudden I have this overwhelming
feeling about communication, about today..It is something about the air
being so thick. It is as if it has to be thick for communication. It is
as if people will have to stop and talk today just to breath.

The War Stories
1.
When I got back to the house Matt just got up and was going for a swim.
June, our Portuguese speaking housekeeper had been up for a while. Geoff
and Dave were installing a two ton portable air conditioning unit ( since
eight o'clock this morning). Don't ask..It sounds crazy but even more crazy
than that, it works and it is portable. The machines will not melt today,
and we will not have to listen over the white noise of a regular wall unit.
That's at least what Geoff says and I believe him. Geoff fixes everything
bless him. I could never have done this project without him. Besides that,
he loves to talk and always has great stories about the music business.
It sometimes starts with," I remember back in the sixties when so and
so was recording and...". Geoff is very knowledgeable about that stuff.
It usually has to do with technical things or how it wasn't so technical
and that's what made it great. So I listen. He has one expression that has
been making me giggle a lot lately and that's, "Sure in a heart beat!"
This always kills me because even if the task is difficult Geoff knows how
to fix it quick. He has a friend named Dave, who's helping him today, who's
a fabulous carpenter. The two of them come and some how pull it off. Geoff
also has a wife Louise. They are one of the most industrious couples I know.
They always seem to know people who can do this job or that. "And it's
not too expensive." This is another Geoffism that I love to hear. He
says it like it's another surprising fact that he knows.. and it is. And
it helps when you have to stick to a budget. But the most impressive thing
to me about Geoff and his wife Louise is the ability they have to make something
out of nothing. Geoff always talks about how Louise can walk into a kitchen
with nothing in it but a couple of cans and create a gourmet meal. I've
actually witnessed this. Geoff like his wife Louise walked into this house
with me and made the living room, which my best friend Howard says was really
the parlor at one time, into a wonderful studio. It's kind of the same ability
as Louise has. He also says one thing about his wife that is especially
endearing. When he doesn't know something he always says," Ask Louise,
she'll probably know." Funny thing about that, she usually does.
peace to you,
Cyn
